PHC moved against objections over tribunal’s judge

PESHAWAR: A writ petition was filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday against objections raised over the judge of the Election Tribunal hearing the election petition for PK-73.Ali Zaman Advocate, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed candidate for PK-73, filed the petition.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the successful candidate from PK-73 Arbab Waseem, the Election Tribunal and the ECP members were named as respondents in the petition.

In the petition, Ali Zaman said that the successful candidate from PK-73, Arbab Waseem of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf—Parliamentarians, had challenged the impartiality of the Election Tribunal’s judge hearing the case.

It may be mentioned that Arbab Waseem had alleged that the judge was biased and supported a particular political party. He had requested the ECP to replace the judge with an impartial one.

Ali Zaman argued in his petition that the accusations were in an attempt to make the Election Tribunal’s judge controversial and delay the proceedings. He claimed that Arbab Waseem was seeking to prolong the proceedings of the tribunal.
