This letter refers to the news report ‘Ahsan-led panel finalising reforms to overhaul bureaucracy’ (November 9, 2024). I think it’s good that at least some thought is finally being given to this topic. In my view, there is simply no need for the FPSC and the CSS exams or groups, cadres etc. I think that most subjects and service areas need to be immediately devolved to the provinces.
If this process is carried out honestly and fairly, the whole bureaucratic system will be streamlined and made much more efficient. I would strongly urge the Minister for Planning Developments and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal to seriously contemplate such drastic, bold, and efficient action. The sooner the better.
