PESHAWAR: Provincial Minster for Excise and Taxation Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel on Thursday sought two-day time from the importers and customs clearing agents to take up their reservations with the chief minister over imposition of the infrastructure development cess (IDC).

The provincial minister assured the business community’s delegation, led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI) president Zulfiqar Ali Khan, that he would raise the matter with the chief minister in the next two days. According to a press release of the KPCCI, the minister was informed that the IDC ratio in Sindh (Karachi) was less than that being collected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and it was only imposed on the value of the imported goods in that province, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa it was collected on imports after the payment of all other taxes.

Jamshed assured the businessmen that the government would review the matter and decrease the IDC, after which the business community postponed the strike they had planned against the imposition of the IDC on imports.
