Country’s progress depends on adhering to Islam, Constitution: JI

LAHORE : Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman Saturday said the country’s progress depends on adhering to Islam and the Constitution.

Speaking at a book launching ceremony at Mansoorah, the JI chief said Islam and the Constitution are the unifying foundations of the nation. He said we are facing multiple crises due to our failure to uphold the Constitution.

The book Main Nay Aaein Banta Daikha (I witnessed the making of the Constitution) is co-authored by Altaf Hassan Qureshi and Prof Dr Amanullah of the Punjab University.

The JI chief said the Constitution has been suffering for over fifty years and the recent 26th amendment was aimed at tightening control over judiciary.

The JI chief said the goals of the struggle of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his colleagues yet have to fully realised.

He said the British left but their loyalist ruling elite and colonial system still persist. He called for the dismantling of this colonial legacy.

The JI chief said the elite class has maintained a stranglehold on resources.

He said the breakup of Pakistan in 1970 was due to our failure to fulfill the objectives for which the country was founded.

He said our troubles were based on our failure to implement on the 1973 constitution fully.

The JI chief stressed a peaceful and democratic struggle on behalf of the people to bring the county on the track of progress and prosperity.
