PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC) to allow Bachelor of Commerce (B Com) and M Com degree holders to appear in the interview for the accountant post.
Candidates with the above qualifications were barred from appearing in the interviews for the positions even after qualifying the written test. They moved the PHC against the decision.Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Syed Arshad Ali heard the petition filed by the aspirants.
Mubashar Manzoor Advocate, appeared for the petitioners. He told the court that the KPPSC had advertised the post for an accountant in the Local Government Department. He said his clients had passed the test but the KPPSC did not call them for the interview objecting to their B Com and M Com degrees. The counsel said this was done despite the fact that the advertisement had clearly mentioned that those having BA or degrees equivalent to that could apply for the post.
Mubashar Manzoor Advocate pleaded that his clients had also acquired the certificate from the Higher Education Commission that had said that B Com and M Com degrees were equivalent to the qualifications required for the post in question-accountant. The counsel pointed out that the KPPSC had recognized the B Com and M Com degrees in 2019 and 2022.
He said the Local Government Department, too, had expressed no opposition to these degrees and that these aspirants were eligible to apply for the post. The court ordered the inclusion of the candidates in the interview and sought a reply from the relevant officials.
