Members of jirga take oath

TIMERGARA: The members of Ghaara Qaumi Jirga (GQJ) took oath at a meeting in Malakabad Balambat here on Friday.

To check all harmful practices, including drug abuse, drug trafficking, dowry and other harmful rituals and to promote a peaceful environment in the area, the elders of Ghara, including Khema, Jabagai, Kandaro, Mirza Abad, Malak Abad, Meeray Balambat, Colony Balambat, Adenzai and Qazi Abad have formed the GQJ, a non-political welfare organization, to strictly check all harmful practices and to promote positive activities in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, GQJ chairman Malik Bakhtawar Jan said that the jirga would soon announce a course of action and code of conduct.The move came as a result of the excessive availability of narcotics in the district headquarters.

District Police Officer (DPO), Lower Dir, Saleem Abbas Kulachi had launched crackdown against the drug traffickers after the elders of Ghara area handed over some drug peddlers to the police but much is needed to be done to completely eliminate the curse of drugs from the area.
