MANSEHRA: Two persons were killed when a Rawalpindi-bound truck fell into a ravine in the Lotar area in Upper Kohistan on Friday.

“We have retrieved the bodies from the ravine and shifted them to a nearby health facility,” Khalid Dad, the district emergency officer Rescue 1122, told reporters. The loaded truck was on its way to Rawalpindi from Gilgit when the driver lost control of the steering on the Karakoram Highway and the vehicle plunged into a ravine.

The locals and Rescue 1122 personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Dasu, where doctors pronounced both Mohammad Asif and Shahid Khan, residents of Swat, dead. The district emergency officer said that the accident rate on the Karakoram Highway, particularly from Lower Kohistan to Upper Kohistan, is higher than in other sections as drivers often ignore dangerous curves or fall asleep while driving in the mountainous Hazara Division.

Meanwhile, the police in Oghi in Mansehra district have arrested two gangsters involved in sodomy, and indecent video-making of youngsters. The police raided the outskirts of Oghi and arrested Mohammad Usman and his accomplice Mohammad Ali. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Oghi, Nazir Khan told reporters that a police team led by the SHO Gulnawaz Khan conducted the raid and arrested the accused.
