212 held for causing pollution
LAHORE:In an ongoing campaign to combat smog, the Lahore Police Friday booked 200 people and arrested 212 ones for causing pollution.
According to a spokesman for Lahore Police, the police during environmental protection efforts detained 8 individuals for burning fuel, coal tar and carbon boards. Some 87 people were detained for improper disposal of construction materials, 18 for setting fire to crop stubble, 25 for setting fire to tires, plastics and shopping bags, 49 for causing pollution of factories and industrial sites and 25 for setting of fire waste.
The police arrested 57 environment accused in City division, 75 in cantonment division, 21 in Civil Lines division, 6 in Sadr division, 5 in Iqbal Town division and 48 in Model Town division. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Khamyana stated that strict enforcement of government SOPs regarding air quality is being ensured. He directed that indiscriminate actions against smog-causing elements will continue, urging citizens to play an active role in combating air pollution.
