Water works

Water supply schemes and sanitation services in urban, semi-rural and remote regions of the otherwise resource-rich province of Sindh have completely collapsed. In all major cities and towns one can see roads inundated by sewage water and whole localities running without water for weeks. This shows the failure of state agencies responsible for providing basic amenities.

Time and again we hear about the outbreak of waterborne diseases like cholera. It has been observed that water supply lines and drainage run side by side. The result is that sometimes sewage water gets mixed with drinking water through leaking pipes. This is a major issue in the urban areas of Sindh. The provincial government needs to devise a comprehensive plan to overhaul the whole system.
