1 killed, 4 injured in Nowshera firing

NOWSHERA: A man was killed and four others sustained injuries as two groups traded fire over the presidentship of Oil Tankers Association in Taru Jabba area in Nowshera district on Thursday.

Ismail Afridi, a resident of Jamrud in Khyber district and currently residing in Hayatabad Peshawar’s Karkhano Market, told the police that his uncle Jan Muhammad Afridi, the central president of Oil Tankers Association of Pakistan, informed him that former district councillor Mian Pervez and his two sons, Aftab and Wahab, had broken the locks and taken over their office located at Taru Jabba on the Grand Trunk Road.

He said that the grabbers had also barred their staff from entering the office.Upon this information, he along with his father Zahir Muhammad Afridi, his uncle Jan Muhammad Afridi, his cousin Irfan Muhammad and Junaid rushed to the office in Taru Jabba.

When they arrived, they found that Mian Pervez and his sons Aftab and Wahab were already present at the office.The complainant said a brawl took place and later the accused opened fire, killing his father Zahir Muhammad Afridi and injuring his cousins Irfan and Junaid.

The motive behind the killing was stated to be a dispute over the Oil Tankers Association’s presidency.Mian Pervez in injured condition also filed a report and said that he along Abbas and his son Mian Aftab was present at the OTA central office and were discussing the issue with Jan Muhammad.

In the meantime, he said that Jan Muhammad along with Behram, Inayat alias Foji, Zahir, Junaid, Shoaib, Irfan, and other unknown residents of Khyber district attacked them.As a result, he and Abbas sustained serious injuries.

After lodging the cases, the police arrested Irfan Afridi from one group, and former district councillor Mian Pervez from the rival group.Due to the indiscriminate firing, the GT Road was blocked and all oil depots, including the PSO oil depot, were closed.
