The annual election for 2024-25 of the Karachi University Teachers Society (KUTS) was held on Thursday, with the Teachers Alliance for Good Governance (TAGG) emerging victorious.
Officials reported that Dr Mohsin Ali of TAGG was elected as the President of the Karachi University Teachers’ Society, securing 303 votes, while Professor Dr. Solaha Rehman from the Karachi University Teachers’ Forum (KUTF) received 205 votes for the same position.
Meanwhile, Syed Ghufran Alam of KUTF was elected Vice President of KUTS, obtaining 367 votes. Professor Dr Muhammad Zubair of TAGG garnered 147 votes. Dr Maroof Bin Rauf from TAGG was elected Secretary, securing 258 votes, while his opponent, Dr Farrukh Rafiq Ahmed of KUTF, received 254 votes.
For the post of Treasurer, Dr Nida Ali of TAGG won with 299 votes, while Dr Muhammad Ayaz from the KUTF received 214 votes. The positions of Joint Secretaries were won by Dr Muhammad Moiz Khan of KUTF, who secured 266 votes, and Faisal Awan of TAGG, who received 265 votes. Taha Bin Niaz of KUTF received 257 votes, and Anila Kausar from TAGG secured 206 votes for the same position.
As of the filing of this report, the counting of votes for the election of the executive council was still ongoing. Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, congratulated the newly elected president and office bearers of the KUTS.
