This letter refers to the news report ‘Nawaz, Maryam go to Geneva’ (November 7, 2024). While we wish anyone who falls ill a speedy recovery, it must be noted that the Punjab chief minister preferred Geneva for her medical treatment over the doctors in her own province. We hear news of good governance all the time and one is sure that the province has very good and competent doctors to take care of anyone with medical problems.
Moreover, Lahore is going through a very bad environmental crisis right now and its people are facing an acute situation due to the smog. Leaving for a foreign country at this crucial juncture is simply not good optics and our politicians have to be more mindful of how these small acts are perceived by the public.
