ISLAMABAD: Almost 1,000 civil servants will be considered for promotion to BS-20 and BS-21 by the high-powered Central Selection Board, which is meeting in the last week of November after almost 15 months.

The majority of officers to be considered for these promotions belong to different occupational groups of the Central Superior Services (CSS).

Around 800 officers belonging to CSS groups and cadres are in the run for promotion to BS-20 and BS-21. Others, to be considered for elevation, are ex-cadre officers from different government departments and agencies.

Among the occupational groups, most of the officers included in the panel for consideration for promotion belong to Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), Secretariat Group (SG), Inland Revenue Service (IRS) and Pakistan Customs Service (PCS).

For the PAS, vacancies available in BS-20 and BS-21 are the highest in number followed by Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service (PAAS), SG and PSP. After a 15 months gap, the high-powered Central Selection Board is meeting in the last week of November 2024 to consider promotions of almost 1,000 in BS-20 and BS-21 civil servants. The CSB is scheduled to meet on 24th, 25th and 26th November. Nov 27th and 28th have also been reserved for the CSB meeting in case the Board fails to complete its task in three days.

It is expected that 300 to 400 officers will be recommended for promotion to BS-20 and BS-21 by CSB, which is meeting after a gap of 15 months. The CSB had last met in early August 2023.

According to the promotion policy, the meeting of high-powered CSB should be held twice a year, but this time it is being held after a long gap. During the caretaker government, the CSB could not meet as the caretaker government was not mandated to promote civil servants.

The matter, according to a source, was actually delayed because of the absence of chairman FPSC, who heads the high-powered Selection Board.

The position of chairman FPSC got filled only recently following which the newly appointed chairman, who is also the chairman CSB, conveyed to the Establishment Division to hold the board’s meeting in the last week of November.
