LAHORE: In a joint operation by the Rahimyar Khan and Sindh police a proclaimed offender allegedly wanted in several terrorism, robbery, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, and attacks on police officials was killed in Bhong, Ubaro on Wednesday.
The alleged proclaimed offender has been identified as Shah Murad Lathani from Kacha Rojhan who carried a Rs 500,000 head money. According to police a kalashnikov and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession. Shah Murad is stated to be the brother of Miran Lathani, another notorious Kacha area criminal. Shah Murad is alleged to be involved in several serious criminal crimes, including terrorism, robbery, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, and attacks on police officials.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, the operation was carried out after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of dacoits in Shabeer Bagh. The dacoits opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing intense exchange of gunfire, one dacoit was killed, while the others managed to escape under the cover of darkness. During the operation, the police also successfully foiled an attempt to abduct a minority citizen. Criminals had sought refuge in Shabeer Bagh, but the police swiftly responded, preventing the kidnapping.
The successful operation was carried out by police team including DSP Bhong, SHO Bhong Police Station, and CIA In-Charge and elite commandos, the Punjab Police spokesman said. The intelligence based operation was conducted jointly by Rahimyar Khan and Sindh Police. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar commended DPO Rizwan Umar Gondal and the operational team for their successful effort. IG Punjab also emphasised that intelligence-based operations will continue to target and eliminate remaining criminal elements in the region.
