PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Department officials on Wednesday seized around 2,500 kilograms of spoiled meat during a checkpoint on GT Road.

The meat was immediately disposed of following established safety procedures. According to Food Department officials, the inspection team established a checking point on GT

road early in the day. And during the checking, they said, hundreds of kilograms of stale and substandard meat was recovered from a vehicle.

They added that the samples were tested by the Livestock Department’s meat testing lab, which declared the meat unfit for human consumption, leading to its prompt disposal. Officials revealed that this rotten meat was being transported from Punjab to various cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The vehicle’s owners were taken into custody, with an FIR registered, and further legal action has been initiated.

Secretary for Food Department Saqib Raza Aslam stated that, under the minister’s directive, a three-member committee has been constituted to thoroughly investigate the network involved in the distribution of substandard meat and to uncover the complete extent of the operation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru praised the inspection team for their successful raid and stressed that stringent actions would be taken against those endangering public health.

He affirmed that individuals involved in this harmful trade would face severe consequences, and directed the department to intensify actions against such businesses to ensure the health and safety of citizens across the province.
