Security measures for Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary reviewed

LAHORE:Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora along with Secretary Home Punjab Noor ul Amin Mengal Wednesday visited Nankana Sahib to inspect security arrangements for Sikh yatrees on the occasion of 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak at Gurdwara Janam Asthan.

They also assessed the city’s entry and exit points along with key locations, and issued necessary instructions. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tasleem Akhtar Rao and District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Nadeem Abbas briefed the minister and the home secretary on the arrangements at Control Room.

On the occasion, the minister said over 60,000 Sikh pilgrims from across the world will arrive at Nankana Sahib from 13th to 16th November for the birth anniversary celebrations, after which they will visit places including Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, Hassan Abdal, Kartarpur, Emanabad, and Lahore.

He said a 20-year master plan is being developed for Nankana Sahib to ensure the best accommodation and other arrangements for the Sikh yatrees. The home secretary instructed the administration to install additional currency exchange and PCO booths at Gurdwara Janam Asthan for the convenience of pilgrims. Commissioner Lahore Zaid bin Maqsood, RPO Sheikhupura Athar Ismail, and representatives from various security agencies were also present on the occasion.
