KARACHI: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has requested the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to take immediate action to suspend the office bearers of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) led by Hafiz Imran Butt.
M Shahid, Deputy Director General Tech/Rehabilitation & Treatment at PSB, has written a letter to Antonio Urso, General Secretary of IWF, saying that PSB had suspended the PWF headed by Hafiz Imran Butt.
“[The suspension was] following a report from the ‘delegate’ (appointed by PSB on the directions of Lahore High Court) citing serious irregularities in the Federation’s functioning, corrupt practices, and violations of the anti-doping code.
“Consequently, the Pakistan Sports Board has issued an official notification of suspension of the PWF on 31s October 2024, and a copy of this notification has been sent to your office through email,” stated the letter to IWF.
In light of the above, he added, and in the interest of promoting clean and fair sports in Pakistan, the IWF is requested to take immediate action to suspend the office bearers of the PWF led by Hafiz Imran Butt.
“Such action will serve as a strong message that misconduct and violations of anti-doping regulations will not be tolerated and will contribute to the restoration of integrity of sport in Pakistan.
“We trust that the IWF will endorse our commitment to uphold the highest standards of governance and anti-doping compliance in weightlifting. Your prompt attention to this matter and any assistance in ensuring accountability within the sport will be highly appreciated,” stated the letter.
