ISLAMABAD: Former Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani termed Monday as a dark day in the history of Parliament, when important legislation was passed by suspension of rules by the government and claimed frightened Parliament or democratic system is weak and it’s existence is always under threat.

“The bills should have been sent to the standing committees concerned, where there implications should have been examined and after consideration of the standing committees, the houses of Parliament should have taken them up, after debate, the houses with majority votes could have passed them,” he said in statement on Tuesday.

Rabbani said the bills have an important impact on the judiciary and the armed forces, as a consequence on the politics, and democratic process.

“The history will hold all of us responsible for circumventing the parliamentary and democratic process,” he said and adding such acts are not an expression of the sovereignty of Parliament or the Constitution, but an expression of fear.
