DERA ISMAIL KHAN/WANA: Five people, including two security personnel and three civilians, lost their lives in separate attacks in Dera Ismail Khan and South Waziristan Lower districts on Tuesday, local and official sources said.
Two security personnel were martyred and three others injured when terrorists attacked a convoy near Gundi Ashiq in the jurisdiction of Daraban Police Station on the Dera-Zhob Road.
It was learnt that a vehicle of the security forces was en route to Daraban when it came under fire by armed assailants near Gundi Ashiq.
The attack claimed the lives of Mohammad Amin and Sher Rehman, while Sepoys Fazal Karim, Moheb Rehman and Sahib Din sustained injuries.
The wounded and the martyred were rushed to the Mufti Mehmood Hospital.
This location has previously been the site of several violent incidents.
In one such incident, armed men looted a cash van transferring funds to a bank in Daraban Kalan and abducted security guards.
In the second terror act, three people were killed when a vehicle was targeted with a rocket in the Barmal Tehsil of the South Waziristan Lower, a senior official said.
District Police Officer (DPO) Farmanullah said the incident happened in Daza Ghundey area of Azam Warsak.
“Unidentified armed men targeted a vehicle moving on the road with a rocket and later opened fire on the automobile with automatic arms,” said the DPO.
He said three people travelling in the car lost their lives in the attack. They were identified as Mustafa, Younas and Usman. The assailants fled the scene after the attack.
The police rushed to the site. The area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched there. There was, however, no information on any arrest made.
The bodies of the victims were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana for a postmortem.
An investigation was launched into the incident after registering a case at the Azam Warsak Police Station.
