Islamabad : Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Engineer Amir Muqam on Tuesday said Pakistan and Denmark could explore a joint programme to improve education, healthcare and vocational training for Afghan refugees.

"We deeply appreciate Denmark's partnership and support in sorting out refugees issues and I am optimistic that together we can develop effective solutions to manage and resolve the Afghan refugees situation while strengthening Pakistan's socio-economic reliance," Ambassador of Denmark Jakob Linulf told minister Muqam during a meeting here. The two discussed a range of issues, including the welfare of Afghan refugees and avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

UNHCR's Representative in Pakistan Philippa Candler was also accompanying him. Secretary SAFRON Zafar Hasan and Joint Secretary Agha Waseem Ahmad also attended the meeting.

Both sides agreed to focus on strengthening bilateral relations as well as increasing high level contacts and exploring new avenues of cooperation. The minister said that there was significant potential for cooperation between the two countries.

The Danish ambassador appreciated Pakistan's recent decision to extend the validity of refugee Proof of Registration cards for Afghans. He also commended Pakistan for its longstanding role in hosting millions of Afghan refugees, acknowledging the country's significant humanitarian efforts.
