Rs70m grants distributed to high court bars

LAHORE : Undertaking a mission to address the issues facing by lawyers across the province, the Punjab govt has started distributing financial grants to different high court bars.

In this regard, the presidents and general secretaries of the Multan and Bahawalpur High Court Bars, on the invitation of Provincial Law Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth, visited provincial capital to discuss multiple matters with the minister.

The Punjab government has provided grants of Rs40 million to Bahawalpur High Court Bar and Rs30 million allocated to Multan High Court Bar. This funding will be used for the construction of female bar rooms, development of e-libraries, executive rooms, procurement of books, a vehicle for transportation, computers, a lawyers’ hostel, a facilitation centre, a medical centre and necessary furniture. Those attending the meeting included Bahawalpur High Court Bar President Sardar Abdul Basit Khan Baloch Advocate, General Secretary Chaudhry Sohail Akhtar Advocate and Multan High Court Bar General Secretary Syed Anees Mehdi. Punjab Law Secretary Bilal Ahmed Lodhi was also present on this occasion.

The provincial law minister emphasised that addressing the urgent issues of lawyers across Punjab is a priority for the government, which is committed to improving facilities and infrastructure within bar associations. The law minister reiterated that he represented lawyers across Punjab and is working systematically to resolve their concerns. He also highlighted that a specialised training programme is being developed for young lawyers, aimed at enhancing their professional skills and knowledge. Furthermore, the Punjab govt is setting up day-care centres for female lawyers in bars across the province, reflecting a commitment to improving work-life balance and accessibility for women in the legal profession.

The visiting delegates appreciated the Punjab government’s initiative and noted that this is the first time in Punjab’s history that the issues of lawyers

are being addressed on such

a large scale.
