UMERKOT: The opening of a people’s school in a remote area of District Umerkot like Dhoronaro which was lagging behind in girl’s education would open new windows of education and opportunities for the students specifically girls to shine.
This was expressed by Managing Director Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) Adbul Kabir Kazi while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony. He praised the exceptional support of Mian Khalid Walhari, has who donated his four-acre land for school with a vision to get the kids of marginalized communities, specifically peasants and labourers, enrolled in this school. He was optimistic that this school will serve as a center for accessible, inclusive, and high-quality education.
He expressed his pride in the school’s establishment, commending SEF’s remarkable strides in expanding educational reach. He highlighted that 42% of SEF’s enrollments are girls across Sindh, underscoring the foundation’s aim to promote gender equality in education.
Kazi added that the infrastructure of this school is a light gauged steel structure, it can withstand high wind loads, earthquake, fire incidents and other disasters. The facilities in this school included advanced labs, wide class-rooms, learning halls, STEAM material, sports grounds and more.
“This is the 2nd people’s school in this district, one is located in district headquarter and its impact on local community is self-explanatory. I have witnessed a rapid change in community, students and the learning environment. Someone can clearly differentiate the pre and post impact of this initiative by SEF, Government of Sindh.”
The land donor and district focal person for the education, Mian Khalid Walhari, said the motive behind the donation of land and opening of this school was to ensure world-class educational access for the kids of marginalized communities who could not afford quality education. He said time is not far when the students of this school will explore the avenues of global village, their innovations and ideas will be celebrated, and these little contributions will make a change.
Chairperson Rural Development Foundation (RDF) Bakhshal Lashari thanked Walhari for his generous approach to donate the land for noble cause. He added that the presence of such infrastructure and opportunity for quality education at the doorstep is a remarkable milestone by the SEF. In the wake of educational emergency, such initiatives would stand tall.
