Teachers threaten strike if demands not met
DIR: Teachers here on Monday said the primary schools in Upper Dir district would be closed indefinitely as part of a strike by the All Primary Teachers Association (APTA) to press for the acceptance of their demands.
Speaking at a press conference, APTA district President Muhammad Zeb, Head Teachers Association President Ikramullah and others said that they would stage the strike against the non-implementation of the upgrade announcement made by the previous PTI provincial government.
The teachers said the provincial government should fulfill their demands or else they would go on strike.The teachers said that primary schools in the Upper Dir district would remain closed until the demands were met. They said all male teachers would participate in the Peshawar sit-in, while women teachers would stay at home instead of attending schools. They said that it was the responsibility of the provincial government to fulfill their demands. The teachers visited schools in the district to evolve consensus on keeping the schools closed until the upgrade was approved.
