UET Council approves several academic programmes
LAHORE:The 235th meeting of the Academic Council of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) was held here on Monday.
The meeting presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Munir was attended by Deans, Registrar, and Heads from various academic and administrative departments. During the meeting, the Academic Council approved the initiation of several new educational programmes aimed at expanding the academic offerings.
Dr Shahid Munir expressed his satisfaction regarding the addition of these programmes and praised the support from council members. He noted that these changes will play an important role in aligning the university's curriculum with current industrial demands and educational advancements. He stated that these programmes would provide students with specialised knowledge and practical skills, better preparing them for various career opportunities and emerging fields. The meeting approved several recommendations presented by the Board of Studies from the Computer Science Department, including new Bachelor of Science programmes in Applied Computing, Information Technology, Gaming and Animation, Information Systems Technology, and an Associate Degree in Information Technology and Computer Engineering.
Additionally, the Council approved the initiation of MSc and PhD programmes in Mineral Processing within the Mining Engineering Department, based on recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering.
The Academic Council also approved the launch of a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences at the UET New Campus, as recommended by the Board of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Furthermore, the Scheme of Studies for an Associate Degree programme in Applied Computing was approved.
From the recommendations of the Board of the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical, and Polymer Engineering, the Council approved an MSc in Process Plant Management at UET Lahore, along with distance learning under smart classrooms for MSc Safety, Health, and Process Plant Management programmes at the New Campus. Lastly, the Council approved a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design based on the recommendations from the Board of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning.
