Massive transfers made in FBR following revenue shortfall

FBR has faced a revenue shortfall of Rs190 billion during the first four months

ISLAMABAD: In the aftermath of massive revenue shortfall, the government has reshuffled the top guns in both the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) and Customs Group, including Member IR Operation and three key Chief Commissioners of Large Taxpayer Offices.

After the assumption of charge by Rashid Mehmood Langrial belonging to the mighty PAS, it was expected that he would bring changes in the top hierarchy in both services of the tax groups.

The FBR has faced a revenue shortfall of Rs190 billion during the first four months. The government preferred to bring key changes at this point of time as the tax machinery would have to fetch revenue collection target of Rs12,913 billion on its board by June 30, 2025.

The FBR made transfer/ postings of 18 top Inland Revenue officials (BS-20/21), including appointment of Dr. Hamid Ateeq Sarwar (Inland Revenue Service/BS-21) as new FBR Member Inland Revenue (IR) Operations.

According to a notification, Mir Badshah Khan Wazir (Inland Revenue Service/BS-21) has been given a new assignment as FBR Member Legal (IR). Najeeb Ahmad Memon (Inland Revenue Service/BS-20) has been given the important task of Member, Inland Revenue (Policy) FBR.

Sajidullah Siddiqui (Inland Revenue Service/BS-21), Chief Commissioner, Large Taxpayers Office, Karachi, has been made Member FBR. Muhammad Tariq Arbab (Inland Revenue Service/BS-21), Member Legal-IR Wing, Federal Board of Revenue (Hq), Islamabad, would now work as Director General, Directorate General of Broadening of Tax Base, FBR. Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan (Inland Revenue Service/BS-21), Chief Commissioner, Large Taxpayers Office, Islamabad, has been made Member, Federal Board of Revenue (HQ), Islamabad. Zubair Bilal (Inland Revenue Service/BS-20), Chief Commissioner (OPS), Large Taxpayers Office, Lahore, has been transferred and posted as Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue (OPS), Large Taxpayers Office, Karachi. Sajjad Taslim Azam (Inland Revenue Service/BS-20), Chief Commissioner (OPS), Regional Tax Office, Multan, has been given a new assignment as Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue (OPS), Large Taxpayers Office, Lahore. Zain-ul-Abidin Sahi (Inland Revenue Service/BS-20), Chief Information Technology, Federal Board of Revenue (Hq), Islamabad, to Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue, Large Taxpayers Office, Islamabad and Hassan Zulfiqar (Inland Revenue Service/BS-20) has been transferred from Commissioner Inland Revenue AEOI Zone, Islamabad, and posted as Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue (OPS), Corporate Tax Office, Islamabad.

On the Customs side, the FBR transferred and posted 35 top officials, including Ashraf Ali (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-20), transferred from Director, Directorate of Input Output Coefficient Organization (South), Karachi, and posted as Collector, Collectorate of IOCO, Karachi, Ms. Azmat Tahira (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-20), posted as Director, Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (Central), Lahore, Ms. Saima Aftab (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-20) posted as Collector, Collectorate of IOCO, Lahore, Fayaz Rasool (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-20) posted as Chief, Federal Board of Revenue (HQ), Islamabad, Muhammad Tahir (Pakistan Customs Service/BS-20) posted as Director, Directorate of Post Clearance Audit (North), Islamabad. The officer is assigned the look after charge of the post of Director, Directorate General of Law & Prosecution, Islamabad, in addition to his own duties till posting of a regular incumbent and many others.
