Moot on ‘Emergency Care’ starts at KEMU

LAHORE : The two-day International Emergency Medicine Conference, themed ‘Emergency Care,’ began at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) here on Friday.

Prof Mahmood Ayyaz, the Vice Chancellor of KEMU, is the patron-in-chief of the conference which is attended by experts from Pakistan and around the world.

The first day of the conference included lectures and sessions from local and international experts on important topics such as the critical ‘golden hour’ after an injury, resuscitation techniques, managing adult and pediatric trauma, and handling cardiac emergencies as well as thoracic and abdominal emergencies. Additionally, there are specialised workshops and masterclasses focused on various aspects of emergency care.

Among other notable speakers featured are Prof Dr Shoaib Shafi, President College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan, and Prof Khalid Masood Gondal (TI, Pride of Performance), Senior Vice President CPSP and Vice Chancellor, FJMU Lahore. The conference also featured international experts such as Prof Phil Wood, CEO of Leeds Teaching Hospitals, UK; Prof Lee Wallis, Emergency & Critical Care Lead, WHO HQ, Geneva, Switzerland; Dr Saleh Fares Al-Ali, President, International Federation for Emergency Medicine, UAE; Prof Karim Brohi, Professor of Trauma Surgery, Royal London Hospital, UK; Dr Fergal Hickey, Past President, Irish Association for Emergency Medicine and Dr Zahra Shah, Consultant Programme Director, Emergency Physician, UK.

Medical students, consultants, postgraduate residents, and house officers are attending the conference which will conclude on Saturday (today).
