PBA elects office bearers: Shehbaz, Naqvi, Tarar, Sharjeel felicitate newly elected office bearers

KARACHI: The Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBC) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, says a press release.

Majority of the members from TV and Radio category were present in the meeting. In addition to the permanent board members, three TV members were elected by the general body as directors on PBA Board in the elected member category namely Neo TV (Chaudhry Abdul Rehman, Mehran TV (Ghulam Nabi Morai) and Discover Pakistan (Qaiser Rafiq).

In the Radio members category, those who have been elected unopposed by the general body as directors on PBA Board are FM-106.2 (Shahid Jamal), Radio Awaz (Mirza Muhammad Naeem), FM-89 (Nazafreen S Lakhani), FM-91 (Sara Taher Khan) and FM105 (Zulfiqar Ali Shah).

Later, the Board meeting was convened and PBA office bearers were elected for the year 2024-25 including Mian Amer Mehmood (Dunya News), Chairman, Salman Iqbal (ARY), Senior Vice Chairman, Mir Ibrahim Rahman (Geo TV), Vice Chairman, Shakeel Masud Hussain (Dawn News), Secretary General, Ahmed Zuberi (Aaj TV), Joint Secretary, and M Athar Qazi (KTN), Finance Secretary.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday felicitated the newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA). In a statement issued by the PM Office, the prime minister congratulated the newly elected Chairman Mian Amir Mehmood, Senior Vice Chairman Salman Iqbal and Vice Chairman Mir Ibrahim Rahman.

He also extended felicitation to other newly elected office bearers, including Secretary General Shakeel Masood, Joint Secretary Ahmed Zuberi and Finance Secretary Athar Qazi. Furthermore, he conveyed his best wishes to all the newly elected office bearers of PBA. He expressed the hope that the newly elected officials will play an active role in resolving the issues of broadcasting and broadcast houses besides development of the association. “I hope that the newly elected officials will play their important role in bringing broadcasting in Pakistan at par with the international level,” he added.

Also, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the newly elected office bearers of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association including Chairman Mian Aamir Mahmood, Senior Vice Chairman Salman Iqbal and Vice Chairman Mir Ibrahim Rahman. He also congratulated newly elected Secretary-General Shakeel Masood, Joint Secretary Ahmed Zuberi and Finance Secretary Athar Qazi. Mohsin Naqvi expressed good wishes for the newly elected office bearers, hoping that they will fulfill the trust placed in them by the Pakistan Broadcasters Association. He expressed the hope that the newly elected office bearers will play their constructive role in resolving the issues of association.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister of Sindh and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Inam Memon, congratulated the newly elected officials of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), stating that the leadership of PBA will promote ethical journalism and broadcasting in the industry. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar also congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association. He congratulated the newly elected Chairman Mian Amir Mehmood, Senior Vice Chairman Salman Iqbal and Vice Chairman Mir Ibrahim Rahman. The minister also felicitated the newly elected Secretary General Shakeel Masood, Joint Secretary Ahmed Zuberi and Finance Secretary Azhar Qazi. “Free and active media is indispensable for the strengthening of democracy and promotion of democratic values. The media is a big and important pillar of the state,” he emphasized.

Tarar expressed the resolve that the government will continue its efforts for the freedom, development and promotion of media institutions. “It is hoped that the newly elected PBA office-bearers will use all their abilities for the development of the media industry,” he maintained.

Meanwhile, Secretary Information Ambreen Jan and Principal Information Officer Mubashir Hassan also greeted the newly elected office bearers of Pakistan Broadcasters Association. Federal Secretary Information and PIO expressed good wishes for the newly elected Chairman Mian Amir Mehmood, Senior Vice Chairman Salman Iqbal and Vice Chairman Mir Ibrahim Rahman and other newly elected office-bearers. “Pakistan Broadcasters Association is the apex body of media industry. The role of media to convey correct and authentic information to the public is unquestionable,” the federal secretary information observed.

The principal information officer said responsible and fact-based journalism strengthens democracy in every sense. He expressed the hope that the newly elected body will use all its capabilities for the development of media industry workers and solving their problems.
