ISLAMABAD: Newly-elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta on Thursday condemned the arrests of lawyers following an alleged firing incident in Gujranwala.
In a statement issued here, he criticised the registration of an FIR based on what he described as baseless allegations, leading to the unwarranted detention of innocent lawyers. He said that the charges detailed in the FIR are not only unfounded but also misrepresent the actual circumstances surrounding the incident. “These allegations are far-fetched and do not reflect the realities on the ground,” he asserted.
He urged the Punjab chief minister and police to dismiss the charges and release all lawyers who have been unjustly detained.
