Nespak approved as consultant for Lahore Development Plan

LAHORE : Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq during a meeting approved Nespak as a consultant for the Punjab Chief Minister’s Lahore Development Plan (LDP) on Wednesday.

The special committee meeting chaired by the minister approved Nespak for early completion of the rehabilitation and construction of Lahore’s streets and markets along with the provision of streetlights.

Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari, Chief Minister’s Special Assistants Zeeshan Malik, Rashid Iqbal and Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian also attended the meeting where various aspects of the LDP were reviewed and instructions were issued to the authorities concerned.

Commissioner Lahore Zaid Bin Maqsood and Deputy Commissioner/Administrator MCL Syed Musa Raza briefed the participants on the LDP. Addressing the meeting, the LG minister said in the wake of the rapid increase in population and settlement of new housing schemes, addressing the basic problems of residents has become even more important. He said the Punjab CM wants positive and constructive change in the masses lives and for this purpose, a comprehensive programme has been launched for less developed areas of Lahore. He said in the first phase development works will be completed in Nishtar, Samanabad, Gulberg, Ravi, Shalimar and Dataganj Bakhsh towns.

He said the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation and WASA will be the executing agencies for the completion of all schemes. The minister said under the LDP broken streets, drains and street lights would be repaired and looked after. Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari directed officials concerned to review installation of street lights on solar energy in the city. Special Assistant Zeeshan Malik called for a permanent mechanism to repair street lights. Rashid Iqbal Nasrallah, Special Assistant to the CM, said streets will be made beautiful under the LDP.
