SUKKUR: The Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party (STP) staged a sit-in at the Khairpur’s Baberloi bypass against the proposed canals from Indus River.
The sit-in continued for six hours, disrupting traffic leading to Punjab, Karachi and Balochistan.STP Chairman Dr. Qadir Magsi, while addressing the protesters, said the people of Sindh made history by participating in the sit-in in large numbers.
He also hinted at expanding the protest, announcing that they will also hold protests at Hyderabad Hattri Bypass on November 9, at Skarand Bypass on November 20 and outside the Governor House Karachi on November 24.
“We are standing as an iron wall against all the canal projects including the Cholistan dam,” he said, adding that he has launched a movement to stop any projects of dams on the Indus River. These projects will harm rice production, which will affect millions of farmers in Sindh, he said.
