Around 70 nations have already constructed 5G networks and the world is already transitioning to even more powerful 6G networks. In sharp contrast, Pakistan is still dealing with challenges relating to 4G connectivity. This position indicates a sad and alarming state of affairs, particularly given that the rest of the world is moving forward with newer technologies. While the current government is focused on judicial issues, it appears that the important issue of internet outages has been ignored. In August 2024, the Pakistan Software House Association (P@SHA) warned that internet disruptions might cost Pakistan’s economy up to $300 million. This financial loss is something the government cannot afford, especially given its current economic challenges. Beyond the economic consequences, internet outages are having a negative influence on education. The continuous internet troubles not only harm the economy, but they also hamper students’ access to learning resources and online education platforms. It is imperative that the government, in collaboration with the PTA, take swift action to address this issue.
