PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday questioned the political role of Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Talking to reporters at the Hayatabad Industrial Estate in Peshawar, the governor responded to the claims of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters that being a housewife Bushra Bibi was not interested in politics.
“Has she come to Peshawar to do shopping at Karkhano Market?” Kundi questioned, adding that her public activities contradict PTI’s claims. He added, “If she is in the Chief Minister’s House, let us know – is she getting involved in politics?” The governor pointed out that many people, including PTI members, suspected the chief minister’s involvement in encouraging Bushra Bibi to play an active role in the party affairs.
“There are doubts among PTI supporters that the chief minister played a part in facilitating Bushra Bibi’s presence to take charge of the party,” Kundi remarked, hinting at internal discussion within PTI about her political engagement.
The governor criticized the provincial government for its “failure” to extinguish a huge fire in a factory in Hayatabad Industrial Area causing loss of billions of rupees. During his visit to the factory, he said that Rescue 1122 could not control the fire timely as the force lacked resources, manpower and vehicles, adding that the fire was extinguished by the Pakistan Air Force.
He said that if all the services had to be done by the armed forces then what would the provincial government do. Kundi demanded the constitution of a joint investigation team to probe the incident and fix the responsibility of the incident.
