Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Tuesday instructed the Engineering Department to complete the ongoing road construction, repair, and carpeting projects within one week.
He emphasised the need for diligence in improving the city’s infrastructure and called for an increase in machinery and manpower to expedite development work. The mayor specifically highlighted the urgency of accelerating construction on II Chundrigar Road, Liaquat Road, Mai Kolachi Road, MT Khan Road, Old Queens Road, Mumtaz Hasan Road, and Jinnah Bridge. He also directed the conversion of streetlights to LED and the establishment of permanent lighting for all historical buildings.
During a high-level meeting, attended by officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s Engineering Department, Wahab reviewed the ongoing work on road and bridge construction and streetlight maintenance. He noted that deteriorating roads were causing significant commuting difficulties and stressed the need for prompt resurfacing and repairs.
He instructed the removal of obstacles along the road from KPT to Three Swords Clifton to ensure smooth traffic flow. Following the resurfacing of Jinnah Bridge, lane marking was to be completed within a week, and streetlights on Qayyumabad Bridge should be restored without delay.
Furthermore, he directed that carpeting work on MA Jinnah Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Kashmir Road, Korangi 8000 Road, and Shafiq Mor be expedited. The additional poles on II Chundrigar Road should be removed, and ongoing development schemes in District West and District Central should be completed immediately. Development work on G Alana Road was to be finished by next week and opened to the public.
