LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former first-class player Mohammad Masroor as the national team’s fielding coach for the tours to Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Masroor, known for his expertise and excellence in fielding during his playing days, was awarded a three-tour contract after a successful stint with the team during the last two Tests against England.
Masroor’s impressive work during the Test series earned high praise from red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie, who advocated for his appointment as fielding coach on Pakistan’s white-ball tours. “Masroor’s work ethic, innovative techniques, and his ability to connect with players made him a perfect fit for the role,” a PCB insider revealed. Gillespie’s endorsement highlights Masroor’s impact on the players, particularly in refining their fielding skills, an area where Pakistan has faced notable criticism in recent years.
Masroor brings a wealth of experience to the national team. He has served as head coach for both the Pakistan Shaheen and Under-19 teams and has held positions with domestic teams. He previously worked as an assistant to former fielding coach Steve Rixon, an Australian who stepped down following internal disagreements with the PCB.
