Constitution violated 20 times by delaying CCI meetings
According to the Constitution, a meeting of the CCI should be held once in three months
ISLAMABAD: Repeated violations of the Constitution have been revealed by not regularly convening the meeting of the Council of Common Interests.
According to sources, the Constitution was repeatedly violated in PPP, PMLN and PTI governments by delaying CCI meetings. According to the Constitution, a meeting of the CCI should be held once in three months. Violations of the Constitution continued under the coalition government, caretaker government and current government. Twenty violations of the Constitution have come to light in 14 years due to delay in CCI meetings. No meeting of the CCI has been held in almost eight months of the present government. Its last meeting was held in the caretaker government on January, 29, 2024. One meeting was held in six and a half months of the caretaker government. One meeting of the forum was held in more than two years of the coalition government.
A total of 40 meetings were held from 2010 to 2024. Violating the Constitution 20 times, meetings were not held within 90 days. In three and a half years of the PTI government, the Constitution was violated six times. The Constitution was violated 8 times in the 5 years of the PMLN government from 2013 to 2018. During the PPP era, the Constitution was violated three times.
A total of 11 CCI meetings were held in three and a half years of the PTI government. There were 16 meetings in the PMLN government from 2013 to 2018 and 11 meetings in the PPP government. Under Article (3) 154 of the Constitution, a CCI meeting must be held at least once in 90 days.
