Many people often wonder why Pakistan does not erupt into a revolution given our low standards of living, flawed democracy and weak justice system. Perhaps these people are overlooking the perils of a wild revolution for any society. Such revolutions usually entail indiscriminate bloodshed and are often followed by war and famine. Romanticising a French Revolution-style upheaval in Pakistan is a fatal thought, considering the number of enemies Pakistan has to tackle. We also have credible alternatives to bringing change other than the menacing concept of revolution. Pakistani society can reform itself through revolutionising our education system and pursuing harmony and community awareness. Gradually, the political thought process will mature and the demand for transparency and good governance will reap dividends. Our great founding father also always preferred legal and constitutional procedures over violence and non-cooperation. The nation is now at a crossroads and it should choose the enlightened and moderate path.
