Officials directed to ensure wellbeing of prisoners

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to take steps for the welfare of the prisoners and directed the relevant officials to take measures for the digital marketing of various handicrafts made by the prisoners.

A handout said that the officials concerned had been directed to establish liaison between the Technical Education Department and prisons for necessary technical training courses in various fields.

The officials were directed to standardize the food items provided to the prisoners and improve its menu and also work on digitalization of rates. Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Prisons Humayun Khan, Provincial Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi, and Minister for Social Welfare Syed Qasim Ali Shah and Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Industries, Commerce and Technical Education Abdul Karim Tordher recently visited the Central Prison Peshawar.

They held a meeting with authorities of prisons.

Member National Assembly Asif Khan, Members Provincial Assembly, Inspector General of Prisons Usman Mehsud and other officials were present.

The visiting dignitaries were briefed about the facilities being given to the prisoners. They met the prisoners in the barracks and inspected the leather industry, handicrafts, embroidery, handicrafts and other hand-made items, training and business places and showed keen interest in his work.

The special assistants and ministers awarded certificates to the skilled prisoners who received technical training and expressed good wishes for their bright future
