PESHAWAR: A fire that erupted in a factory in Industrial Estate Hayatabad on Saturday was put out after hectic efforts by around 100 firefighters for over 24 hours.

“Over 25 firetrucks from Peshawar, Khyber, Charsadda, Mardan and Swabi and over 110 workers made hectic efforts for over 24 hours to extinguish the inferno in a factory of tissue paper and disposable bags,” the spokesman for Rescue 1122, Bilal Faizi, said. The official said there was no casualty in the incident but the fire damaged the four-storey building of the factory that developed cracks.

The firefighters continued efforts throughout the night and on Sunday to put out the flames. The clearance operation was still underway.

Goods worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes in the fire that broke out in the factory on Saturday at around 1:45pm.

Initially over 60 firefighters and 20 fire trucks made efforts for around many hours to put out the fire that had engulfed the entire building of a tissue paper factory. Later firetrucks and rescuers from other districts were also called. The fire was so huge that some of the firefighters fell unconscious while performing their duty due to heavy smoke.

The flames of the fire could be seen from most parts of the provincial capital. Many locals also rushed to help bring out the goods from the building amid the fire. The officials are assessing the worth of the goods gutted in the fire.
