ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir congratulated the mother of the newly appointed Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi at his swearing-in ceremony held at the President’s House on Saturday.
The CJP’s mother thanked the army chief and said today is a proud moment for our tribe, family and people. At this, the army chief said it is a matter of pride for us as well to have Justice Yahya Afridi as chief justice, as the son of a distinguished and honorary sword-recipient officer of the Pakistan Army has become the chief justice of Pakistan today.Justice Yahya Afridi’s father was a captain and a graduate of Sandhurst Military Academy, England.
He later left the Pakistan Army and joined the Civil Service. Umar Khan Afridi was divisional commissioner of Lahore. In November 1983, he was appointed as the administrator in Islamabad. He was later promoted from Lahore and became the chief commissioner of Islamabad in Grade 21.
Umar Khan Afridi retired in 1994 as the principal secretary to then president of Pakistan Farooq Laghari and later became an interim interior minister of Pakistan.
