4 cops, 2 civilians martyred in Mir Ali suicide attack

MIRANSHAH/ WANA: Four policemen and two civilians were martyred and eight others injured in a suicide attack in the Eidak area, Mir Ali tehsil, North Waziristan tribal district, on Saturday.

Police officials said that a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into a check-post in the Eidak area, leaving four cops dead and one injured. Two civilians were also killed in the attack. Security forces arrived on the spot after the attack and cordoned off the area.

The funeral prayers of the fallen cops were offered at the Governor’s Cottage in Miranshah.

General Officer Commanding Major General Adil Iftikhar Warraich, Deputy Commissioner Yousaf Karim, District Police Officer Rukhanzeb and other civil and military officials attended the funeral. A contingent of the police offered salute to the coffins, which were later dispatched to native areas for burial.

The slain cops were identified as Latif Khan, Suhail Ahmad, Ajab Noor and Shah Manan. They all belonged to Mir Ali.

Meanwhile, suspected militants attacked the residence of former senator Maulana Mohammad Saleh Shah affiliated with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl in the Khaisoor area in Upper South Waziristan. Police sources said that explosives had been placed near the boundary wall of the house to trigger an explosion. The explosion caused damage to the house of Maulana Saleh Shah.

Assistant Commissioner Umar Khattab also confirmed the incident and said that no loss of life was reported in it.

Shams, the son of Maulana, when contacted, said that some armed men also barged into their house after the blast and opened indiscriminate fire. However, the inmates remained unhurt in the firing. A contingent of police arrived at the spot after the incident.
