Uzbek Senate praises Pakistan’s democratic system

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Irfan Siddiqui Saturday reaffirmed Pakistan’s high regard for Uzbekistan and pledged continued support for infrastructure projects such as trans-Afghan railway initiatives and Gwadar port programmes.

A delegation of senators, led by Senator Irfan Siddiqui, is comprises of Senator Sarmad Ali and Senator Amir Chishti. The delegation is currently visiting Uzbekistan as international elections observers.

During their visit, the delegation engaged in diplomatic discussions and exchanges aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

They visited Senate Secretariat of Uzbekistan at Tashkent and held meeting with Senator Ravshanbek Alimov, Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of Uzbek Senate, and Senator Anvar Tuychiyev, Deputy Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee of Uzbek Senate and others. The Uzbek Senate praised Pakistan’s democratic system and highlighted robust strategic ties between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

Both sides showed a keen interest in further enhancing Pak-Uzbek relations with discussions revolving around the potential for future cooperation, including parliamentary friendship group exchanges.

The Uzbek Senate provided insights into the election process and functioning of Uzbekistan parliament, fostering a better understanding between the two countries.

An invitation was extended to the Uzbek counterparts to visit Pakistan, with the aim of promoting mutual cooperation.

As part of their visit, Pakistani senators were briefed on the workings of Uzbek Senate. Khalid Taimur Akram, an expert on the Eurasian Region, accompanied Pakistani Senate delegation.
