Islamabad
The low-paid employees of the private companies operating in the capital city have opined that there is no use of setting minimum limit for monthly wages in the annual budget as no one ever bothered to implement it even in Blue Area, the nearest commercial hub to the Parliament house.
“Every year the federal government raises minimum wages for the employees but there is still no mechanism to ascertain whether this rule is applied properly at the ground level,” said Kamran Saeed, an employee at a private company in Blue Area.
He said: “My monthly salary is Rs8,000 and there is no one to monitor the situation and take necessary action to implement the orders of the government. There are large number of employees even in this Blue Area that are being paid quite low as compared to the minimum limit set by the government.”
The peons working in the private offices are generally given monthly salary from Rs6,000 to Rs10,000 and most of them are compelled to continue with it as they have no other option in the face of limited job opportunities. Tariq Hasan, an employee, said he is maintaining account section of a small company and his monthly salary is lower than the minimum wage limit, adding “I will certainly leave this job as soon as I find any other good opportunity.”
