PPP Senator Sarmad Ali has stated that 99 percent of fake news in Pakistan is presented as gospel truth.

He remarked that no one’s dignity is safe on social media, and this culture was promoted by a political party and it is unfortunately becoming rampant in other parties.

Senator Sarmad Ali, who is also secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, was the chief guest on the final day of a workshop organized by the Women Media Centre. During his address, he said that Bhutto Shaheed went to the gallows but did not reveal any national secrets, including nuclear secrets that he was privy to.

He also pointed out that no minister from Imran Khan’s government attended Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s funeral. The only government functionary who attended the funeral was Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

Speaking on artificial intelligence, Sarmad Ali remarked that AI has eliminated our ability to think, as people have stopped reading books and newspapers for enhancing their knowledge. Instead they are relying on Google and lately on ChatGPT. This has seriously impacted the need for critical thinking, he added.

Women journalists and media students participated in the ten-day workshop held in Karachi.

At the conclusion of the programme, certificates were distributed amongst the participants.
