Islamabad : The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board has released a rescued endangered Indian pangolin back into its natural habitat at the Margalla Hills National Park.
The scaly anteater was seized during a raid in Kallar Syedan tehsil on the outskirts of Islamabad and taken to the IWMB Rescue Centre for care.
A comprehensive examination by pangolin expert Adrin revealed that the toothless mammal weighed 5kg and was in excellent health, promoting the IWMB to decide to reintroduce it into the wild.
An IWMB official said a fine of Rs 70,000 was imposed on those involved in the illegal capture of the endangered pangolin.
He said the board was committed to combating wildlife crimes.
“This action highlights the critical importance of wildlife conservation efforts and sends a strong message against wildlife trafficking, which significantly threatens biodiversity,” he said.
