Pakistan’s Parvez elected International Gymnastics Council member

LAHORE: Parvez Ahmed from Pakistan has been elected as a Council Member of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) from Asia at the annual meeting of FIG held in Doha, Qatar.

During the meeting new officials were elected for the next four years. Japan and Russia contested for the presidency with Japan’s Morinari Watanabe defeating the Russian candidate by 104 votes to 54 to become new President of FIG. Four Vice Presidents and seven Executive Members were also elected. A total of 21 Council Members were chosen, including five representatives from Asia.

Parvez Ahmed, President of the Pakistan Gymnastics Federation, was nominated to represent Asia on the council. He expressed immense pride in this achievement, considering it a great honour for Pakistan. “After working for the promotion of gymnastics in the country, I am thrilled to be elected to the international body. Through this platform, I will strive to promote gymnastics not only in Asia but also for my country, Pakistan,” said Ahmed.
