There appears to have been a surge in blasphemy cases being filed against individuals from religious minorities. This is an issue that many from minority communities have long raised concerns about since some people often file such cases due to personal disputes and enmity. However, the authorities have not paid serious attention to the issue.
There also seems to have been a rise in people taking the law into their hands and lynching others based on unverified or erroneous allegations. The killing of Dr Shahnawaz from Umerkot at the hands of the police fits this pattern and shows how allegations of the nature he was facing can be a death warrant in and of themselves. This dangerous trend should be stopped immediately.
