While one may believe that after years of oppression under British rule Pakistanis would accept diversity with patience, this has not been the case. In the last 77 years, Pakistan has faced many unjust deaths under the illusion of ‘righteousness’. Mob justice is a common disease in our society. The recent killing of Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar by the police has yet again brought this social menace to our attention. It is incidents like these that create fear and anxiety among ordinary people. Now more than ever, the government and courts of Pakistan need to decide whether they will cure this disease or let it fester until no justice remains. The government needs to educate people regarding the consequences of such actions and punish those who take the law into their own hands.
