Maryam inaugurates Sheikhupura Safe City Project

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the Safe City Project in Sheikhupura on Thursday.

The program to make 18 cities of Punjab ‘safe cities’ by next March was launched on Thursday from Sheikhupura. Next week, 4 more cities will become ‘safe cities’, which will be inaugurated by the Punjab CM.

Maryam Nawaz also monitored video wall of Safe City Sheikhupura and inspected the latest communication equipment. She was also apprised of advanced body cam, rugged smart phone and other devices. She inspected the monitoring process at the control room of Safe City Sheikhupura.

The MD Safe Cities briefed the Punjab CM about the project. She was informed in the briefing that 273 cameras were being installed at 52 important places of Sheikhupura.

E-challans will be imposed automatically for committing violation of traffic rules. Safe City Sheikhupura will also monitor Air Quality Index. Criminals will be identified and traced through Facial Recognition System. Pink buttons have also been installed at 10 different places in Sheikhupura city.

Maryam Nawaz said that free WiFi facility was also being provided at 15 locations in Sheikhupura city. Later, the CM also met assembly members of Sheikhupura. DPO Sheikhupura gave a briefing on the law & order situation. On the demand of assembly members, an agreement was made on the construction and expansion of Sheikhupura-Sargodha Road and overhead project.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was the chief guest at a ceremony in Garments City, Sheikhupura, to mark the completion of training of the first batch of her project to make women skilled and economically empowered. She gave certificates to women who were trained in garment making and sewing. She said, “This is the first batch of women to complete training under the programme of skilling women for the first time in Punjab.”

On the United Nations Day, Maryam Nawaz in a message said, “The United Nations is a ray of hope for peace, human rights and development. The day dedicated to the United Nations reiterates the importance of solidarity, peace and cooperation.”

The Punjab chief minister said, “Pakistan is deeply committed to the fundamental objectives of the United Nations. As a responsible and active member, Pakistan has always adhered to the resolutions of the United Nations.” She vowed, “Pakistan will continue to play its role in world peace and development on the platforms of United Nations. We will strengthen cooperation with the international community for the development and prosperity of the people.”

She added, “We appeal to the United Nations to play its role in giving rights to the oppressed Muslims of Palestine and Kashmir.”
