‘Interfaith harmony essential globally’

FAISALABAD: The Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) organised a seminar on religious diversity and interfaith harmony.

It was chaired by GCWUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zile Huma Nazli while Director Coordination Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Dr Tanveer Qasim was the chief guest.In her address, Vice Chancellor Dr Zile Huma Nazli emphasised that tolerance was the best solution to eradicate religious discrimination. She added that providing space and rights to non-Muslims was a hallmark of an Islamic society. Dr Nazli also stressed the need to foster an environment of moderation and tolerance in the society, appreciating the Punjab government’s initiatives for youths and the PHEC’s efforts to promote interfaith harmony.

Dr Tanveer Qasim, in his remarks, spoke about the significance of interfaith harmony in a pluralistic society, stating that humanity should be the greatest religion, with values such as equality and tolerance as its core principles. He noted that societies thrived on shared values and that interfaith harmony was essential globally. He also pointed out that fake news was one of the leading causes of societal discord and emphasised PHEC’s ongoing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence on university campuses. Additionally, he mentioned that the Punjab government was investing billions in scholarships for deserving students, benefiting over 30,000 students across universities. The seminar was attended by Dr Asma Aziz, Director of Student Affairs, Dr Amara Javed, faculty members, and a large number of students.

DISTRICT ADVISORY COMMITTEE: A meeting of the District Advisory Committee for Agriculture was held here.

It was announced that 48 dealers across the district were supplying fertilizers, seeds and agricultural chemicals to holders of the Punjab Kisan cards at government-fixed rates using POS machines. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir, who emphasised that the Kisan cards had significantly eased access to agricultural inputs for the farmers. Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Adil Ahmed informed the committee that a target of 618,000 acres had been set for wheat cultivation this year. To support the farmers, the Agriculture Department had deployed 23 teams and 42 agricultural graduates throughout the district for training purposes.
