LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday rejected a bail petition of one Naveed, the main accused in the Wazirabad attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder.

A two-member bench, led by Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, heard the post-arrest bail petition of accused and announced the verdict after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence.

The prosecution argued that Naveed was arrested at the crime scene and clearly identified through footage, with witnesses corroborating the evidence. They requested the court to deny him bail, citing strong evidence against the accused.

However, the defence counsel claimed that his client was wrongfully implicated, emphasising lack of concrete evidence and pointing out that eyewitnesses referred to an unidentified suspect.

He requested for post-arrest bail for the accused.

The attack, which took place in November 2022 during a PTI rally in Wazirabad, resulted in injuries to the PTI founder and several party leaders, while a party worker was killed.

Naveed Meher is accused of firing shots at the event.

Multan bureau report adds: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Multan Bench Wednesday ordered Muzaffargarh district police officer (DPO) to observe his legal limits and not to harass and pressurise the petitioner. Petitioner’s counsel said Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafique of the LHC also directed the petitioner to file a complaint against the police in the court.

Petitioner’s lawyer Muhammad Amir Khan Bhutta informed the court that Mujeebah Fazeela and Alipur Sadar Police SHO and Alipur SDPO were causing troubles for them despite the court injunction. The petitioner stated that the Muzaffargarh DPO was pressuring them to give possession of a property to the other party, though two cases against her regarding division of property and contract of sale were pending in the civil court.
